Can It Be? Are We FINALLY Getting Our Needed Locations???

It’s been a long, like really long, journey for this project.  Much of the struggle throughout has been with getting adequate events / venues / locations for the end scenes in the film.  For these scenes the script calls for an arena type setting, with a huge atmosphere and crowd of thousands.  When you are making a 100% independent production like Fight 4 Your Life, this is no easy feat.  Hell, it’s no easy feat even if you have tons of investors backing you.

The time it takes to organize your cast and crew alone is absurd.  Then add the actual preparation for the equipment, the shots, the acting, the sound, the costumes, the makeup, etc., and the multitudes of time spent dealing with your location / venue contact….or, in our case, the time spent waiting patiently for an update from your contact…..and you quickly come to a point where months have passed for the process.  It can be frustrating, even more so when you are getting regular “Nos” more than you are getting “Yeses”.

It took us over a year to find a proper venue and willing promoter for our shoot at Oracle Arena in Oakland, CA last year (June of 2015).  And we got approval very last minute, like 2 days before.  Much of our cast couldn’t make it because of that, unfortunately.  So, after this shoot we spent months trying to get even a call back from Oracle to let us back in for vital additional shots.

Guess how many times the Oracle staff actually called us back?  We’ll just say it was less than one.  Yep, if it hadn’t been for our awesome friends at Roc Nation Sports, we never would have even seen the inside of Oracle Arena.

It’s been eight long months since that Oracle shoot.  Despite our best efforts, we’ve had no luck in finding a worthy venue that approves us getting our vital shots needed….until now.

You see, we’re not complaining about the process we’ve went through.  Not to seem like we are psychics or know-it-alls, but we anticipated this.  And that’s why our patience has been possible.  But even our patience has its limitations.  After all, it’s time to get this thing done!!!

As fate would have it, Roc Nation is putting on another gigantic boxing event at Oracle Arena on March 26, 2016.  We have been in contact with our friends again and things are looking good for us getting back in Oracle, finally, for this event.  It seems we are for sure getting in in some capacity.  How many people we’ll be able to get in and how much we’ll be able to do is still up in the air, as we have to play the waiting game.  But things are looking good!

Another venue we’ve been pushing to get into is Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, CA.  We actually shot some stuff previously in one of the exterior parking lots at Sleep Train.  Having done that we already built a relationship with the staff to some degree.  And, so, we then approached them with the need to shoot interior shots in the actual arena.

As it sits, we are in the process of getting approval by the NBA to get into Sleep Train, which is home to the Sacramento Kings.  A hefty fee is likely going to be required before we step a foot in that place.  But, with any luck, we’ll soon have this location to get our final shots for the spectacular ending scenes in the film!

After years of trying, it seems we might very well end up having two large arenas to complete Fight 4 Your Life.  It’s quite amazing.

Please come out and support F4YL at the March 26th Roc Nation event at Oracle.  Local legend Andre Ward is fighting in the main event!  It’s sure to be a banger!  Last time celebrities such as Michael B. Jordan, Steph Curry and Sway were in attendance.  You can always watch on HBO also!  We’re telling you, this is big!!!

And we very well may need lots of extras for the future shoots at Sleep Train, all depending on how we organize our shoots with the arena.  More info on that to come as we solidify things.  But do note it can be a great way for you to not only support, but be a part of the project!  For more info contact us HERE.

Thanks for the continued love everyone!  Keep up the fight!

Fight 4 Your Life – UPDATES!!! Early October 2014.

Pushing hard to truly finish up filming with our final tidying up pickup shot sessions, we had a small shoot this past weekend, October 4th, 2014, in Stockton, CA at the Stockton Indoor Sports Complex.  The amateur boxing event was held by former professional boxer, and great supporter of F4YL, Yaqui Lopez.  In addition to some much needed cast and crowd shots for the film, here we were able to get some shots with the great Iron Mike Tyson himself, a personal friend of Yaqui’s!  Now, as excited as we are to have had the opportunity to get these shots, there is no guarantee we will be able to use them in F4YL.

We have been in communication with Yaqui and Mr. Tyson’s people f9r the last several months in a valiant attempt to get the permission necessary to shoot Mike at this event and to use what we might get with Mr. Tyson within Fight 4 Your Life in some form.  We even ventured to Sin City, Las Vegas, in September for a chance to meet Iron Mike briefly and run things by him, which we were somewhat successful in doing, believe it or not, even providing Mr. Tyson with an official F4YL poster and tee shirt.  Much love goes out to cast member Tony “The Tiger” Lopez for helping us to accomplish what we did!  And boy was it awesome attending a Floyd Mayweather event!

As we review what we were able to shoot this past weekend with Iron Mike, and as the progress with his management continues, we will keep you all up to date.  So, please keep your fingers crossed for us.  One thing is for certain though, Iron Mike is a cool cat!  And we greatly appreciate his cooperation during the short time he was at the event.  Just to have this opportunity took a lot of work on the end of the one studios crew.  We hope Mike and his people see it fit to join the fight!  Special thanks to Mike’s longtime friend Tom Patti for helping as much as he could.

Thank you for your continued support amigos!  Please support Yaqui Lopez and his great cause to help the kids too.  And swing by the Stockton Indoor Sports Complex if you’re in the area.  Facility manager Jimmy is a great dude!  And, as always, like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and check out our pics on Instagram here and there.  Our IMDb page will be updated soon also.  WOW!  We’re busy!

Shoots Going Strong! Meet Hanson “Hansome” Kelly

Hi everyone!  The final shoots with our lead actor, Brandon J. Woods, are going excellent.  We currently have just four days left with him and, aside from a few small pickup shoots we are taking care of after he has left us, the film’s production is pretty much a wrap.  Truly, this is an exciting time!

Fight 4 Your Life‘s journey, although far from over, has been one of learning and grit.  It is because of the dedication of our awesome cast, crew and supporters that we have made it to this point.  We urge you to keep up with the final days of shooting with Mr. Fleet Blackwood himself as we near the end of this leg.

Oh, and we here at one studios know you’ve been patiently awaiting the revealing of Hanson “Hansome” Kelly…..Behold!  The Sneaky Slobberknocker himself.  Check out Hanson’s bio here.

Gary Shurley – casting / trainer / wardrobe

Gary Shurley is a man of many belts.  Founder, CEO, boxing and MMA guru, sales director, promoter and, yes, he is even a film lover and supporter!  Originally from the Bay Area, Gary’s background is Nicaraguan, Irish and Cherokee Native American.  He started in the fight game when he was 16 years old.

“I love anything to do with fighting including a good old brawl,” says Gary.

Gary has been coaching for 30 years and has acquired many nicknames, such as Coach, Doc and Ball Peen Gary.  He’s been running a boxing crew at Roseville PAL since 1995 while still maintaining his coaching obligations.  He elaborates on his thoughts on MMA and fighters,

“I love the MMA.  These guys are the best of the best.  I feel very connected to the fighters because we are a breed apart from the norm.  My dad once told me there are two kinds of people.  There are herd bound, which are the followers and the talkers, and then there’s the mustangs like us.  They don’t like rules and they take chances.  They’re not afraid to fight or bleed.”

Gary is not one to sit and relax.  He’s out hitting the streets and looking for action.  Here are a few words he has on this,

“I run a tough crew.  I love enjoying life with family and friends and meeting new people and I’m always willing to try something new.  I was also taught to never think you are better than anyone.  I don’t have much but I have my word and my integrity.”

The one studios crew has had the pleasure of experiencing Gary’s words to be truth.  He is an intense guy, sure.  And we like it!  But from his intensity things get done and so comes honesty and action.  He is a selfless type of person who is out to help others and asks little, if anything, in return.

Gary has given countless hours towards the Fight 4 Your Life cause to provide boxing training, props, costuming gear, actors and locations.  It is through Gary we were able to meet Tony “The Tiger” Lopez, who ended up being cast as Tony “The Tiger” Mercado, which is a key role in our humble project.  We can’t thank Gary, as well as his lovely wife Lorraine, enough for being committed to F4YL.  Without him on our team this project would have some troubled waters indeed!

As busy of a guy as he is, Gary has lots of avenues for contact.  But a few good one are…

And be sure to look out for a special appearance by Gary in Fight 4 Your Life when you see the film!  Oh, wherever is he???

F4YL “Running” Teaser Trailer (Short Film Version) (VIDEO)

The following teaser trailer was developed from the footage we shot in 2012 for the short film version of Fight 4 Your Life.  Our goal with this teaser was to demonstrate to the best of our abilities at the time the style and color schemes we were going to go for in developing the Fight 4 Your Life feature length film.  It’s important to note that the short was not shot with much of the color schemes, style, visual FX and more depicted in this trailer in mind.  So, it was a challenge to tweak things to a respectable level for what we wanted.

With that said, we were also aiming for this teaser to gather enough interest to gain the support of our local filmmaking community.  This was very important in the casting and development process, and more, because it allowed potential cast and crew to see we had a vision, and that we were not simply talking about it.  The teaser also showed we had already put in a lot of work on this project, further illustrating our seriousness about it coming to fruition.

The short film version of F4YL has only been seen by a select few people involved in that production.  We’ve held off showing it to people because it would reveal too much story line of the feature, which shares the same basic structure, even if immensely more detailed and added to.  Truly, they are two different films with strong likenesses, if that makes sense.  But we want that to be seen later, not now!

The actual finished version of the short has been seen by even fewer eyes since the version showed to most people was a rough cut.  Director/editor Bryan Bachar was already in heavy with the feature version of F4YL when he completed tying things up with the short.  So, there you go.

Plan to definitely see the short version of F4YL in the future though, likely on the DVD under special features when everything is said and done!  Then viewers can compare and contrast to all their hearts’ desire.  Anyway, here’s the teaser!  Can you see the similarities between it’s style, color schemes and more and those of the current feature version teaser trailer?  Check the feature “Intro” teaser trailer HERE.
